Synopsis:

1698, Spain
The same evil that stole her mother’s life stalks Isabella Castellano. Afraid for her safety and with no one to help her, Isabella disguises herself as a cabin boy and hires on to one of His Majesty’s treasure fleet vessels. But has her flight from a known threat only led her to be ensnared in a sea of dangers?

Present Day, Florida
Summer Arnet will go anywhere to capture the perfect shot that will get her marine photography noticed by the prestigious natural magazine, Our World—even diving in waters haunted by Great White sharks. When a treasure hunter with a ladies’ man reputation
approaches her about a sunken ship at one of her past dive locations, it might be the chance she’s been looking for to launch her career…if his charming smile doesn’t derail her first.

A past tragedy has left a hole in Trent Carrington’s life—a hole he’s tried to fill with women, money, and adventure. Could the feisty marine photographer be the missing piece or will Trent finally accept that the treasure he seeks can’t be found where rust and moths destroy? Three lives. Three hundred years. One ship that ties them together.

Review

Two stories intersect. One is the tale of a photographer trying to get her dream job while struggling with the affections of a handsome man searching for a sunken ship. The other tells of a young lady fleeing her home in seventeenth century Spain by boarding a ship as a disguised cabin boy. That Spanish ship ties the stories together as the readers wonder how it sank, what treasures the contemporary characters might find aboard it, and whether any of its passenger survived.

Finders Keepers surprised me a little. I wasn’t expecting it to be Christian but it most definitely was, telling of several characters who found healing in their souls through God’s love. In most other ways, though, the book was predictable. It was interesting to see how the two stories played out but it was easy to guess the ultimate endings, in which the main characters survive and find love. Even the how’s were pretty easy to predict.

Despite this, the stories were pretty good. One the one hand, the contemporary couple struggling with loss and mistrust because of their and other’s past actions. They obviously grew through the novel. On the other hand was a woman who hurt because of her stepfather’s actions and ran to freedom only to find love and family. It was really sweet to read. Isabella’s story was certainly my favorite tale of the two.

I would also add a note about the romances. They were too quick, bordering on love at first sight. I believe in attraction at first sight, not the genuine, forever kind of love that married couples need in order to bear through all of life’s struggles together. The contemporary romance was too much of a love at first sight based almost solely on physical attraction, although the characters did get to know each other relatively well by the end of the book. The historical romance was a little different. The wedding at the end was a marriage of convenience and necessity not based out of love, though the characters were beginning to feel attraction for one another. Out of the two romances, the second one seems more likely to turn into the lasting, marital love.

I would recommend Finders Keepers to lovers of historical and contemporary romance.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

  1. I haven't read "Finder's Keepers, bit I have added it to my TBRlust. I like how the book is set in two different eras and will be interesting to see how they intertwine.
