When charming rake Tristan Barrett sweeps Lady Elizabeth off her feet, stealing both her heart and a kiss in a secluded garden, her brother challenges Tristan to a duel. The only way to save her brother and Tristan from harm—not to mention preserve her reputation—is to get married. But her father, the Duke of Pemberton, refuses to allow his daughter to marry anyone but a titled lord. The duke demands that Elizabeth marry Tristan’s older brother, Richard, the Earl of Averston. Now Elizabeth must give up Tristan to marry a man who despises her, a man who loves another, a man she’ll never love.

Richard fears Elizabeth is as untrustworthy as his mother, who ran off with another man. However, to protect his brother from a duel and their family name from further scandal, he agrees to the wedding, certain his new bride will betray him. Yet when Elizabeth turns his house upside down and worms her way into his reluctant heart, Richard suspects he can’t live without his new countess. Will she stay with him or is it too little, too late?

5 Ways to Steal a Kiss from a Lady

1. Catch her unaware, kiss her with firm yet gentle pressure, grin, touch her cheek, then saunter off while she’s still shocked and staring.
2. Lure her into a secluded garden, kiss first her hand, then her cheek, and finally her lips.
3. Sneak up behind her in the library, whisper in her ear, turn her slowly, and kiss her.
4. Offer to get her a glass of lemonade at a ball or other social gathering, lead her behind a column or potted plant where her chaperone won’t see, and kiss her.
5. Invite her to get some fresh air outside on the terrace, find a spot where the foliage provides cover, tell her she’s enchanting and beautiful, then kiss her.

5 Ways to Steal a Kiss from a Gentleman

1. Arrange for a game of hide-and-seek. Accidentally hide in the same place where he is hiding. Let the close quarters create the necessary tension that leads to a kiss.
2. Mention how much you love to go for long walks and invite him to join you. Let nature take its course.
3. Look him in the eye, smile, lower your eyes, bite your lip, move to another room where no chaperones are present. At the last second, look over your shoulder and smile as you continue walking.
4. Learn the language of fans for “I want you to kiss me.” (touch handle of fan to lips)
5. Enlist a friend or sister to help you get him alone, find your courage, rise up on tip toe and give him a kiss he won’t soon forget.
